![]() Some people assume that our database exists to point LGBT people to LGBT-affirming churches, for instance, or to warn them about non-affirming churches. All too soon, it will be down to just us and our fuzzy children (two cats and a dog) at home.ĭerry and I met at the University of Texas, and he introduced me to Jesus in 1992. Our daughter, Liana, attends college at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and our son, Devin, is a senior in high school this year. We’ve got 25 years of married life under our belts, and he’s promised me a minimum of 80, so we’ve got plenty more to go. I live in Leander, Texas, just north of Austin, with my husband Derry. ![]() I’m out on my own now, but I continue to study and write about God’s Word, and speak about what I learn to anyone who will listen. Austin Oaks is my spiritual home, and though I’m no longer on staff, my family and I continue to worship and serve in this local body.ĭuring my tenure on staff at Austin Oaks Church, I wrote nine Bible studies for our women, studies which I’m now bringing to the public as quickly as I can get them updated and ready. I loved writing curriculum and devotionals for our congregation, and broadcasting the message of our local church as far and wide as I could. I also served short stints as the Small Groups Director and the Communications Director at Austin Oaks Church, and at one point, held all three Director titles at the same time. We tackled issues like leadership, mental health, sexuality, engaging in politics, self-care and sabbath, parenting, marriage…if it matters to women in real life, we went there! Fourteen ministries from churches and para-church organizations gathered under the BRAVE banner, and we formed deep sisterly bonds that continue to outlive the conference. Through those experiences, God birthed in me a passion for all women to find their identity in God alone, to know him intimately through the Scriptures, and to find the joy-filled life he offers in Jesus.įor six of those years, I organized and hosted the BRAVE Women’s Conference in Austin, Texas, inviting other ministries to partner with Austin Oaks Church and encourage women to engage fearlessly in the culture we live in. Licensed by our denomination, the EFCA, I had the privilege of serving multiple generations, from college-aged and young professionals through octogenerians and seasoned veterans in the faith. Nine of those years were spent as the Women’s Director, writing and teaching Bible studies, planning events, walking with women through the ups and downs of life. ![]() My ministry life began as a small group leader in a women’s Bible study, and winds all the way through a decade of senior church staff positions at Austin Oaks Church. The more I dig around in the Scriptures, the more treasures I find, the more I see them played out in the real world we live in, and the more I love to share them with others. Everywhere I turn, I see God putting his truth on display, in the everyday moments and the dramatic, mind-blowing ones.
